Kitty Wars is written by Karyn Lewis, a freelance illustrator and journalist living in Northwestern Indiana with her husband and the Kitty Wars cast.

The comic is loosely based on what happened when my husband, Jeremy, and I first moved in together and merged our households -- and housecats, "Brady-Bunch"-style.

While I'm taking a few liberties with personality and scenario, I'm trying to combine both real-life behavior (example: Maxine really DID pee on my side of the bed shortly after I moved in), with storytelling.

After three years, there are still kitty tensions in the house: Changing factions, fights, and sometimes, moments of peace -- usually on the bed, when all three kitties sleep together, carefully separated by two feet of neutral space around each cat.

So it's mostly true. And evolving -- there might even be a May-December romance in the works! My husband rushed in the other day to announce:

"I think Elvis and Artemis are falling in LOVE with each other!"

I'm on the fence on the whole kitty-lovin', but he claims they were playing footsie on the couch, thus breaking the "Neutral Space Agreement" of 2003.
